(May 15, 2009/New Jersey) Sky Blue FC’s Jen Buczkowski was forced to leave her team’s Women’s Professional Soccer game against Chicago in the 26th minute after she was felled by cramps.
Coach Ian Sawyers said, “It was a game-changing moment. We were leading 2-1 and then she went down. We’re not sure when she’ll be able to return.”
Teammate Natasha Kai observed, “We just wish her luck. She’s an important part of this team. But cramps can be a tricky injury. Trust me on this one.”
Sky Blue’s Strength and Conditioning Coach Mark Williams said, “It’s hard to watch a top athlete in her prime felled by such an injury. But there’s not a lot we can do now. She’s on a regimen of Ibuprofen, bed rest, and Ben & Jerry’s Super Fudge Chunk ice cream now. We hope she recovers soon. If need be, we’ll put her on the 4-7 day Injured Reserve.
Cramps can be characterized by sharp, throbbing, dull, burning, or shooting pain. In some cases, bloating, aching, and irritability can accompany them, as my wife can attest.
Goalkeeper Karen Bardsley told FOUL, “I thought something was up when Jen started complaining about my goal kicks in practice on Wednesday. But I had no idea how severe here injury was until after the game. There was blood everywhere and she was moaning in agony. |
