USSF Referee Jair Marrufo accidentally fell into a manhole on Monday.
Marrufo said, "It was my own fault. I should've seen it. I don't know how I missed it really. In retrospect, it was probably harder to miss it than to fall into it."
Marrufo was not injured in the accident.
"I fell. Then I heard a grunt, and then I realized that I wasn't alone. I couldn't believe it. When the other guy started lecturing me about how I should look where I'm going, and that this would be my last warning, I realized it was Abby."
Referee Abby Okulaja had been missing ten days, according to USSF Head Of Referees Esse Baharmast.
"We were really worried about him. The last time he was missing this long, he had fallen down an elevator shaft and we couldn't find him for a week."
It's not the first time Marrufo has made headlines. In June of last year, the MLS referee broke his nose walking into a door that he thought was open.
