MARYLAND LEGISLATORS DEMAND REPLACEMENT SERVER
By Jay Walker

(Annapolis, MD) The DC United met with Maryland lawmakers today to debate the fate of the server destroyed by the soon-to-be-homeless soccer team's fans.

The United's president, Kevin Payne, urged fans last week to contact legislators regarding the fate of the soccer team's potential Prince George's County stadium.  And did they ever.  The United's fans, proving beyond of a shadow of a doubt that they are internet geeks par excellence, pounded the server with 28,000 emails the first day, resulting in the destruction of the legislators' server.

Now it's payback time.

The United's CEO Victor MacFarlane was forced to endure a grilling at the hands of Maryland lawmakers.

"Servers don't just grow on trees, you know" said John Bohanan, Jr. of the Maryland House Appropriations Committee. "Maryland, like most states, is facing a massive budget crunch because our tax projections fall far below what we spend.  And now we have to buy a new server!  It's outrageous."

Bohanan said that in addition to the cost of the server, they would probably have to hire some nerd to assemble and install the necessary software.

"Where are we going to find a person qualified to do that?"

Maryland's unemployment rate is currently at 6.2%

MacFarlane suggested that he would be willing to chip in $145, and that the remainder could be generated by increased access to lobbyists and Political Action Committees once the server was up and running.
